Fee Based Consultations
In common with all Independent Financial Advisers we offer a fee based service. This is often seen as appropriate to ensure unbiased reporting and advice, to reduce the impact of charges on the investments or plans arranged, and to allow our Clients to select the degree of personal service appropriate to each individual.
We offer an initial interview (normally at our office) at our expense. This allows you an opportunity to discuss your requirements, to judge whether we can help you and to be given information on the costs involved. This meeting is without obligation on your part.
When you instruct us to proceed we will normally ask you for detailed information (by way of a confidential questionnaire) and confirmation that we have your authority to proceed on your behalf and that you have agreed our charges. If we are to review existing arrangements that you have we will also ask for your authority to allow those providers to release information to us.
The work we undertake on your behalf will then depend upon what has been agreed with you. It will normally be charged on one of the following bases:-
- An hourly rate based upon time spend and subject to VAT. Details of which are provided in the document "Paying for our Service"
- A fixed fee agreed with you in advance (based upon an assessment of the work that needs to be undertaken)
- The payment of a regular "retainer" fee to provide initial and ongoing services (as outlined in one of the three programmes we can offer you)
- A fee paid from commission received either by the arrangement of a new product or the ongoing administration of pensions and investments
We will issue you with a summary of our time spent and normally collect fees after the work has been completed or by way of instalments.
“Nothing comes of nothing” If you are not invited nor intend to pay a fee for financial advice the following enquiries may be appropriate:-
How is the consultants’ time paid for?
Will you feel under any obligation to buy a product?
Will the product include any additional charges to fund commission or other forms of reward?
Will the product be from a specific range or from the entire market?
Is it most suitable to you?
Is the advice unbiased?
Will the consultant be able to provide regular reviews in the future?
Will the consultant be available to provide compensation if the advice is inappropriate?
